Professor M. A. S. Abdel Haleem is an Egyptian-born Professor of Islamic Studies at SOAS, University of London. His translation was published by Oxford University Press in 2004 as part of the Oxford World's Classics series. He has been teaching Arabic and Islamic Studies at SOAS since 1966.
Haleem uses flowing, contemporary English prose that reads naturally while remaining faithful to the Arabic. He avoids both archaism and over-literal translation, aiming instead for a style that conveys the Quran's meaning clearly to modern readers.
