Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall (1875-1936) was a British novelist, journalist, and Islamic scholar who converted to Islam in 1917. His translation, 'The Meaning of the Glorious Quran,' published in 1930, was one of the earliest English translations by a Muslim whose native language was English.
Pickthall favored a literary, slightly archaic English style to convey the majesty of the Quranic text. He intentionally titled his work 'The Meaning of the Glorious Quran' to emphasize that no translation can fully capture the original Arabic.
